Welcome to ECSM

We are pleased that you would like to learn more about ECSM. Use the annual month of action in October as an occasion and get active for cyber security.

What is the ECSM?

Since 2012, ECSM has been raising awareness among citizens and organisations across Europe for prudent and responsible use in the cyber space. Started as a pilot project, the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain and the United Kingdom participated in the first year to raise awareness about cyber security with the support of ENISA and the European Commission.

Since 2013, Action Month has been a regular pan-European format. The actions range from events and internal awareness-raising to the establishment of websites and press work.

Under the leadership of the European IT security authority ENISA, the member states of the European Union offer various events and information on the topic of cyber security during ECSM.

The BSI as coordinating body for Germany

As the coordinating body for the ECSM in Germany, the BSI informs organisations and companies that deal with IT security issues about the Action Month and encourages them to get involved with their own activities.

Participate in the ECSM Action Month

The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) calls institutions from the state, business and society up to participate in European Cyber Security Month (ECSM).

All organisations that communicate the topic of cyber security to a broad audience can participate. This can be done publicly through, for example, lectures for private users, information tours at marketplaces or social media campaigns. Non-public events such as employee training courses can also be announced. You can register your activity on the official ECSM website https://cybersecuritymonth.eu/@@activity-add. Furthermore you can raise attention for your activities on social media by using the official hashtag #CyberSecMonth.
